Will nodes be required to maintain a full chain associated with their particular shard in addition to minimal chains of the other shards?

No, MultiVAC is the first public chain project that does not have a general ledger. The storage node of each shard only needs to maintain the data of this shard, and the miner node only needs to store very lightweight data, even if there are hundreds of bytes or less than 1KB of data, and they can participate in consensus and mining.
Therefore, you only need to have a dual-core 4GB memory computer to become a miner. Now we are still further optimizing our code, and even a computer with 1GB of memory in the future can become a miner. Then, when you open a computer to mine, it will not affect the normal office.
